Young Inventors Journal's Writing Competition or YIJ is a competition organized by ASTI (Association of Science, Technology & Innovation) and supported by the Ministry of Water, Land & Resources.

This year the Theme is How to Conserve and Save Water? Since our last innovation in YIC (Young Inventors Challenge) in 2018 was on Grey Water System, I thought why not to team-up and start a write-up on this particular innovation.

To fast forward; we were selected among the top three papers in the group category

The venue is at White Box Publika, Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur.

Before anything else, I would really love to extend my gratitude to my biggest number one supporter; my Big Boss Pengetua; Pn Hjh Juahir Mohd Hassan back then, the date 17 August 2019. Now she is peaceful and happily retired with dear husband and family, 💜💜

Green Technology Show 2019

Tahun 2019 hampir melabuhkan tirai namun masih belum berkesempatan untuk sharing aktiviti spesifik ini yang banyak memakan masa, menghabiskan tenaga , memerah idea dan cuba jaya sehingga lah benar-benar menghasilkan satu masterpiece  seni lakon integrasi dengan content sains.

Ya. Di ruang ini guru bereksperimentasi dan bebas dengan hasil seni merentasi kurikulum.

Di kesempatan ini, saya ingin berkongsi kejayaan yang telah dikecapi bagi aktiviti Persembahan Teknologi Hijau (Green Technology Show)

Program Jelajah KPM 2019 - MAPS, Ipoh

Sedikit Perkongsian Isi Persembahan:

1.    1.   Memerihalkan dan mengaplikasi penggunaan alat kawalan mikro (microntroller) dan ekstrak kobis ungu sebagai menyokong Prinsip ke 7 Kimia Hijau (Green Chemistry) iaitu meminimumkan penggunaan bahan kimia daripada sumber petrokimia dengan menggantikannya dengan bahan  kimia daripada sumber berasaskan tumbuhan

(i)                 Sketsa penggunaan kereta robot daripada set alat kawalan mikro (Arduino)

(ii)               Mendefinisikan set alat kawalan mikro dan fungsinya kepada manusia

(iii)             Memberi contoh kegunaannya sebagai pengesan (sensor) dan micro controller Arduino contohnya untuk  mengesan nilai pH air sungai untuk mengetahui tahap pencemarannya

(iv)              Mendefiniskan konsep Kimia Hijau

(v)                Mencadangkan pengunaan kobis ungu sebagai penunjuk pH berasaskan semulajadi

2.      2. Memerihalkan pencemaran air beserta contoh yang berlaku di Sungai Kim Kim, Pair Gudang, Johor.

(i)                 Punca : Air kumbahan, sampah sarap, bahan buangan cecair kegunaan rumah,, cecair buangan pertanian dan cecair buangan perindustrian.

(ii)               Kesan: kesihatan terhadap pelajar-pelajar sekolah

(iii)             Kaedah mengatasi: Pemantauan kualiti air sungai secara konsisten

(iv)              Memberi kesedaran bahawa pencemaran yang berlaku hendaklah dihentikan untuk memastikan alam sekitar terpelihara.

3.      3. Cadangan kaedah pengurusan sisa dan air sisa secara penjimatan air dan kitar semula air secara efisyen

(i)                 Memperkenalkan istilah ‘air kuning’, ‘air perang’, ‘air kelabu’ dan ‘air hitam’.

(ii)               Cadangan pengurusan sisa yang lestari dengan menggunakan Grey Water Recycling System sebagai langkah penjimatan air secara kitar semula

(iii)             Menggunakan Grey Water Recycling System untuk mengairi tanaman dan rumput, menyejukkan atap, membasuh longkang dan untuk mengepam tandas.

4.      4. Mengaplikasikan teknologi gabungan pertanian dan perikanan; akuaponik secara kitaran iaitu tangki ikan dan bekas tanaman secara berasingan.

(i)                 Penjimatan air dengan mengaplikasi pertanian dan perikanan iaitu teknik akuaponik yang dilaksanakan bagi menangani isu air.

(ii)               Memerihalkan cara kerja akuaponik dengan penerangan kitaran ammonia kepada nitrat

5. Menyemai kesedaran bahawa penjagaan alam sekitar adalah tanggungjawab bersama melalui lagu “Earth! We’re in it Together”

EASY ARDUINO DATA LOGGING

Definition -  Data Logging

•The process of using a computer to collect data through sensors, analyze the data and save and output the results of the collection and analysis. Data logging also implies the control of how the computer collects and analyzes the data.

•Data logging is commonly used in scientific experiments and in monitoring systems where there is the need to collect information faster than a human can possibly collect the information and in cases where accuracy is essential.

Discussion:

•Arduino supply maximum 5V thus the sensor could not collect the data at the voltage more than 5V.

•Tint film is used to reduce the illuminance of light; reducing the voltage of the sensor in order to collect more data especially at 11.am to 2.30 pm

•Illuminance of light does not affect on certain parameter such as air movement, humidity, temperature of surrounding thus this type of sensor alone would not make a perfect weather station.

FESTASI III Uitm @ Bagan Datuk

Alhamdulillah thanks to Phykir lab, UPSI, we managed to send our girls for the innovation in education which is the utilisation of smartphones and software to analyse the gravitational force and also to analyse the interference of sound waves.

This competition provides the opportunities for the students to be apply the innovation for future education towards the 21st Century Learning.

Journey to the Toray Interview

Alhamdulillah our team was selected for interview of Toray Science Educational Award. Thankful to Allah for such opportunities, experience and meeting NEW PEOPLE

The whole family were excited and we planned to stayed at the same hotel for the interview (which cost a big hole in pocket 😇😇) to make it easier for everyone (bcos I was 39 weeks pregnant and Braxton Hicks was my best friend).

.............. 16 years ago ideas' to challenge a mechatronic invention 😅. Now I learnt that i need to learn arduitronic 😇 syukur alhamdulillah. Lesson learnt!

Anyway i would like to SHARE the idea of grey water system as I practice SHAREISM huhuhu..

WE WON THE FIRST PRIZE FOR THE SCIENCE CARNIVAL COMPETITION DISTRICT LEVEL, dedicated to my girls; Farah, Aysa n Liyana. 💜💜💜

SCENE 1: A HOT AND SUNNY DAY

Ms. Drama Queen walking fast across the school car park wearing a big hat and with and electronic fan and bump into Ms. Physics Major and books are flying all over.

Ms. PM	:	Owh….owh… I am sorry
Ms. DQ	:	OMG… Now look what you have done!
Ms. PM	:	Owh..I am so sorry let me help you
Both went to the nearby canteen and sit on the chair.
Ms. PM	:	Ms. Drama Queen why are such in a hurry? You are walking so fast as you are gonna melt under the SUN!

Ms. DQ	:	Of course Ms Physic Major, don’t you know that the world is getting hotter  of global warming. The surrounding temperature is so hot and I am taking care of my skin from the skin cancer. Don’t you know that?
Ms. PM	:	Oh.. its good that you are so concern about the Earth. Now tell me more!
Ms. DQ	:	You know Ms. Physics Major, Let just make it simple to understand. When you sleep at night, and you covered with blanket. What do feel?
Ms. PM	:	Hot!
Ms. DQ		Hot isn’t.. Similar to the Earth, The sun direct its light and heat to Earth. And the Green House gases prevent the heat and light from escaping the Earths’ atmosphere
Ms. PM and Ms. DQ pin the SUN and the EARTH on the banana stem. And they cover/ shield the Earth with a shield.
Ms. PM	:	You are genius Ms DQ… examples of GH gases are Carbon Monoxide, Sulphur dioxide that is release by the factories anddd also by or transportation!
SCENE 2: At the canteen. Ms. Know-It-All overheard the conversation and stop by
Ms. KIA	:	Errr excuse me.. I overheard your conversation about the Greenhouse effects and about the Sun. Discussing on the other dimension, don’t you know that the Sun provides us with energy. The light and heat energy that we call as Solar energy.
Ms. DQ	:	Of course I am aware of that, but I wish I was born in London or New York..or…
Ms. PM	:	But I am so grateful to live here in Malaysia. Our country is bless with sunlight throughout the year.
Ms. KIT	:	Yes..talking about energy.. Here Now this is our assignment assign by our Physics teacher. We are discussing two issues in the class that is Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Eficiency (EE)
Ms. DQ	:	Ohh yess! Look at me! Don’t u ever think a beautiful creature like me didn’t know about RE and EE. RE is an optional Energy which will not depleted over time Where EE is to save energy and use energy efficiently
Ms. KIA and Ms PM clapped their hand and pop a blaster.
Ms. KIA	:	Ms Physics Major, can u explain further?
Ms. PM	:	Ok let me try.. This is incandescent light and this is CFL (Fluorescent Light) This incandescent bulb cost 10 times than CFL and use 80% higher Energy than CFL. Whereas, CFL is energy saving lighting and can last 25 times longer compare to the incandescent light.
Ms. KIA	:	Yes, next, this is LED light, LED light is more energy efficient than CFL because it uses 7.5w of electricity which is lesser than CFL that uses 24w of electricity power. The LED ligt is expensive than CFL as the life of an LED light is usually up to 50 000 hours or more while the life aof a CFL is up to 8000hours, which means LED light are durable and long lasting as compared to CFL. When it is lighten up, LED will remains cool and brighter, whereas the CFL gets heated up quickly and less brighter than LED light
Ms DQ	:	But……. What are we going to do with this incandescent light, if it didn’t benefit us,then why do the seller still sell this in stock.
Ms PM	:	Dear Ms DQ, incandescent light produce 40% of light energy and 60% of heat energy.
Ms KIA		Why not if we use 60% of the heat energy to heat up something?
Ms DQ		Uh…uh.. I think I have a brilliant idea!
Ms KIA & PM		WHAT…IS.. THAT..?!

Ms KIA		Wait! Innovation in a simple word is turning something that as is to a “valuable” … to something that can benefits the people around the world!
Ms DQ		Uh..uh..mmmmmm welllllllll… I N N O V A T I O N n n n  iss closely related to CREATIVITY. Creativity is about NEW IDEA where INNOVATION is translating the idea into a good service which creates profitable value when we implement these idea.
Ms KIA		Surely it cannot be done in one day….
Ms PM		Its true… Innovation requires time, leadership, teamwork and Communication.
Ms KIA		I agree.. without good leadership and Teamwork, there will be NO PROGRESS in innovation.
Ms PM		Also.. don’t forget to sell ur idea of innovation by sharing its benefits through all the social media especially…….

Ms DQ		mmmmm..mm again! This is my new invention “The Multi Purpose Thermo Light Box” with a Soul (action : everybody laugh)
Ms PM		Enuff with ur derama Ms Drama Queen. Now tell me more bout this so called “invention” Ooops INNOVATION
Ms KIA		(INSPECT THE BOX) This is a microwave isn’t buttttt with incandenscent light bulb??? And.. u r cooking the chicken eggs?
Ms DQ		No…no…no darling.. now let me explain.. THIS IS A MICROWAVE…but a it is not function..Now as u can see, this incandescent light is not efficient isn’t? So,.. I benefits the 60% of the heat energy as what we discuss before to keep the chicken eggs warm until it hatched.
Ms KIA		Let me demonstrate… 1.     Open the oven 2.     Put the eggs and close its door 3.     Let it turn (wait for a while) 4.     Turn off the oven… 5.     Temperature (thermometer shows 37 degree C)
Ms PM		The sourceR in the oven is for….
Ms KIA		The heat to distribute evenly… through RADIATION
Ms PM		And the fan?
Ms KIA		For the heat to distribute through CONVECTION
Ms DQ		GENIUS! And one more…. The light can be control by a controller by increasing or decreasing the resistor.
Ms KIA		Wow.. my mother would love this to warm her donut daugh and let the yeast enjoyed their METABOLIC ACTIVITIES in this optimum temperature !
Ms DQ ALL		Sure! The blessing of HEAT, LIGHT AND INNOVATION!!!!!!!!!!
