QR Code for Technology-Enhanced Learning Module

Technology-Enhanced Learning Module in the topic of Waves and Sound
(Self-Learning Module & Experiment Manual)

Assalamualaikum wbt.

Alhamdulillah, I would like to share the QR Code for Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) Self-Learning Module, which I have been working on throughout this year. Hopefully, in the year to come, I would be able to come out with more modules on TEL for the benefit of students and teachers/educators.

Self-Learning Module

Experiment Manual

Learning theories that build up this module is the combination of B.F Skinner's Behaviorism and Vygotsky's Social Constructivism are used in this TEL module. The Operant  Conditioning by Skinner explains about modification of behavior while Vygotsky focuses more on socially assisted scaffolding, which both affected the student's level of achievement.

I hope that students and teachers would benefit from the technology embedded instruction for our future generation.

Young Inventors Journal

Young Inventors Journal's Writing Competition or YIJ is a competition organized by ASTI (Association of Science, Technology & Innovation) and supported by the Ministry of Water, Land & Resources.

This year the Theme is How to Conserve and Save Water? Since our last innovation in YIC (Young Inventors Challenge) in 2018 was on Grey Water System, I thought why not to team-up and start a write-up on this particular innovation.

To fast forward; we were selected among the top three papers in the group category

The venue is at White Box Publika, Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur.

Constructivism and Red cabbage

Meeting sessions with supervisor always been a challenging period of time, especially with my supervisor Prof. Madya Dr. Nurulhuda Abdul Rahman.

Something that really hit me until now is when she commented about the Learning theories that I have selected to support my developed Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) module. I was there looking totally like an idiot (as the result of the unprepared and reading index at a very low point) as I gulping my saliva and remember that I read somewhere but not really grasp the main idea of the context, just read through.

"What is the principle of constructivism?"

I was.. ammphh ..err.. ummmm..

Cut it short, I revise my literature and maybe I can relate to; the First principle of Instruction elaborated by Merrill (2002):

1. Learners are engaged in solving a real-world problem
2. Existing knowledge is compulsory before adapting new knowledge
3. Student-centered when new knowledge is demonstrated by the learner
4. New knowledge is applied by the learner
5. New knowledge is integrated into the learner's world

My metacognitive run wild, now I will try to adopt these five principles into one of the elements in our previous Green Tech Show.

Element 1: Problem is, the world has too much of unnecessary chemicals which gives impact to the environment

Element 2: Apply "a green approach" to determine the pH value of substances

Element 3:  Students demonstrated the experiment since they are the one who will gain new knowledge

You tube link: Red cabbage as pH indicator

Element 4: Blooms Taxonomy - Application: anywhere / anytime (at home/in discussion with peers/ teaching little brother) since the knowledge and experience were already 'there'

Element 5: Other than Red cabbage, what other 'green' product can be used to determine pH value?

T.O.T - Pilot Study - Validity & Reliability of the Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) Module

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamualaikum wbt.

The journey of TEL Module started when the Experiment Physics held in Phykir Lab, UPSI. Thanks to my sifu Prof. Rosly Jaafar who had introduced me with the softwares and smartphone application to be used as learning tool in order to adapt the Experiment-Based Learning and Learning through Believing.

By adopting the Sideks' Module Development Model, there are two steps that should be done before having a Ready-to-Use Module which is:

Phase I: Prepare a draft module

Phase II: Test and evaluate the module

Sideks' Module Development Model 1.

Me with the living legend; Prof. Dr. Sidek Mohd Noah

I have gone through each and every step from Developing aim of the module, identify theories, needs assessment, set the objectives, content selection, strategy selection, media selection and integrate the draft module as I come out with a completed draft module.

Stage II is what I called as Field study. Before conducting the pilot study, I plan for Training for Trainers (T.O.T) sessions. Since the TEL module acquired students and teacher to download softwares into laptops and install free apps in the smartphones, I need extra hands for facilitating in order to  keep the Learning Time on track. There are two sessions of T.O.T; one with 5 students and the other one with 2 teachers. Their involvement is voluntary and much appreciated.

T.O.T 1: Students: Sh. Asilah, Farah, Wan Nur Liyana, Farzanan and Nur Adriana

T.O.T 2: Teachers: Pn. Nuraini from Methodist Girls School and En. Khairul Anuar from Izzuddin Shah

Then the Pilot Study.

A pilot study is "small study to test research protocols, data collection, instruments and other research techniques in preparing for a larger study" 2.

The pilot study was held at SMK Raja Permaisuri Bainun and I would like to convey my special thanks to Pn. Kasma Manis for helping me out with her students during experiments.

After the treatment (30 students of SMK Raja Permaisuri Bainun utilize the TEL module), they:
1. Sit for the achievement test.
2. Respond to the questionnaire of reliability of TEL module.

The purpose of the test is to test whether the study instrument(s) is asking the intended questions, appropriateness of time taken to complete the achievement test, whether the format is comprehensive and whether the selected validated tool is appropriate for target population.

TEL module is tested for its reliability - which refers to a measurement that supplies consistent results with equal values 3.

Problem-Based Learning in Determine the Cost of Electricity Science Form 3 KSSM

By using the same scenario of Problem-Based Learning such in my previous teaching material @ PBL Electrical Energy Power & Efficiency , I implement this lesson to my 3 Lily and 3 Orchid as part of their Project-Based Learning (which Problem Based Learning is a subset of the Project- Based Learning for PT3 assessment)

THEME: Energy and Sustainability

Activity 6.11
To audit the cost of electrical energy used at home as a way of saving electrical energy

Teaching aids:
Textbook, reference book, internet, Electricity bills, manila card and marker pen

Cross-curricular element: Science and Technology, Environmental studies

Moral values: Helpful, diligent, responsible, thankful and cooperation

21st-century Learning: Problem-Based Learning

Thinking skills: HOTS: applying, analyzing and evaluating

T & L evaluation: Presentation, Group work and Project-Based Learning

The pictures below were during the presentation of 3 Orchid:

Misconceptions:
1. The unit of electrical energy was repeatedly pronounced as Kilowatt per hour.
2. The power of night light is too big eg: 123 Watt
3. The electrical cost per unit is not consistent as what is stated in the electrical bill and TNB Taarif in TNB website:
The first 200 unit = RM0.218
Next 100 unit       = RM 0.334
Another 300 unit = RM 0.514

So they need to REVISE their calculation and report that in their Project-Based Learning group report.

WHILE IN THE OTHER HAND, the struggle is real with 3 Lily

Misconceptions:

1. Challenge in converting number from Watt to kW
2. Challenge in converting time from minutes to hour
3. In interpretation of RM0.218 and 21.8 cents to calculate for cost
